
Director Heamee Kang Kim
Dr. Heamee Kang Kim holds a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from Yonsei University and earned both her Master of Music (M.M.) and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) from the Manhattan School of Music. Her doctoral thesis was titled “The Symphony for Organ and Orchestra and Solo Works of Aaron Copland.”
Dr. Kim studied organ under the tutelage of Professors Sang-Soo Kwak, Frederick Grimes, and McNeil Robinson, and participated in a master class with Jean Guillou at Riverside Church in New York City. Additionally, she studied orchestra conducting with Dr. Dennis Keene at the Manhattan School of Music.
As a concert artist, Dr. Kim has performed organ recitals at the Church of the Ascension and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New York City, as well as in various venues across the United States. In recent years, she was invited to perform at Inchon Naeree Methodist Church, Kyungdong Church, and Seoul Church in South Korea. Notable performances include a pipe organ concert at Torch Mission Concert Hall in Seoul
As a conductor, Dr. Kim led the Yonsei USA Chamber Chorus from 2004 to 2010 and the Korean Community Center’s (KCC) Junior and Youth Orchestra & Chorus in New Jersey from 2005 to 2016. She also conducted mission concerts at Carnegie Hall for the Yonsei USA Chamber Chorus in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 and 2010, she directed the Underwood Chamber Chorus, performing mission concerts for the next generation at NJ Chodae Community Church and NY Presbyterian Church.
In 2015 The Underwood Orchestra is founded with a full orchestra member who are very high professional musicians. The Underwood Orchestra has performed every year then and continue to perform today
Currently, she serves as the Organist and Music Director for the Youth Orchestra & Chorus at Chodae Community Church in New Jersey, and as Music Director for the AACC Junior & Youth Orchestra & Voices, as well as the Underwood Orchestra.
